'BBall' Hoops and Height
In 1891, James Naismith developed the sport of basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts. The height was arbitrarily set at an even 10 feet. Since then, basketball has evolved into a vastly popular sport, from local playgrounds to the professional forum. The average height of today’s NBA players in 6’6” allowing players to easily stuff in points by “dunking” the hoop. The question remains, why is it, the HOOP HEIGHT IS THE SAME at public parks, school gymnasiums and the NBA? Compare this to Major League Baseball or the PGA Tour where the lengths of the playing fields are enormously longer and more challenging for the pros. Let’s see how good these guys really are by raising the NBA hoops to 12 feet. Even I would tune in to watch that.
